This resource offers practical examples of Learning Challenges in English. They are organised so they exemplify a possible teaching sequence to meet an identified outcome. These examples use the same principles as the Learning Challenges in other subjects: greater learner involvement in engaging with the context and reflection up on their learning.

Each step is expressed as a question, encouraging deep thinking and offering an opportunity for both pupils and teachers to reflect upon the effectiveness of learning at each step and overall. Many are directly linked to a Learning Challenge in another subject, so that English can be placed purposefully at the heart of the curriculum. Others exemplify a text type that needs to be covered to meet statutory requirements in the English curriculum. Many are also linked to the texts used in the "Planning Through Quality Texts" documents.

Each example is followed by a link to the possible objectives covered by the preceding Learning Challenge.

This package includes Word, PowerPoint and pdf versions of the resource.
